SPINAL ANATOMY
-Care...Comfort...Natural Cure-
The spine is a complicated organ. Yes, its functions are similar to a complete organ system. It is made up of bones with joints to allow movement. It maintains the body in an erect posture while allowing quit a bit of freedom of motion. It supports the head (and brain) with all of its sensory organs like eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc. at the top of the body and allows the head to move around freely so that those sensory organs can focus on what you want to see, hear, smell, and taste, etc.
The spine also transmits all of the nerves that go out from the brain to every cell in the body. So the “communication lines” that go to every cell and every organ receive nerves that go thru your spine. The spinal joints function to allow the spine to move around, and the spine has protective “canals” where the nerves exit the spine. It also has “cushions” between each vertebra called “discs”. The discs are very close to the canals and problems with these discs can reduce the size of the canals causing pressure on the nerves. This causes pain and can usually be corrected by regular chiropractic care, especially when the problem is relatively new. Waiting for it to get well on its own can produce a long term problem complicated by arthritis.
